Growing up I’ve never given much thought about money habits. If anything, I did an ostrich when it came to money matters which was what got me to learn life lessons the hard and painful way.
Being in the financial sector over the past six to seven years, it dawned on me that I am growing so much from unlearning old money habits to learning new ones … more people (esp ones like me who love it simplified) should get on it.
With the information learnt and doing the hard work of learning what I avoided (and was not taught because let’s be real – schools don’t teach finance much in my time), it made me realise investing is no longer an option. It’s a priority. The longer you put it off, the longer you gottta be prepared to work.
Factor in how we are living wayyyy longer than before. In Singapore the life expectancy is about 83.1 years …. which got me thinking that is over 50 more years. The question that instantly popped up: If my life as it is continues for over 50 years, is it a yay or nay. Instant response: Shiiiiiiiiit. Which highlights a stark point: I don’t want to live for a long period of time with a hard life. Do you?
That leads us to the important question: Are we at where we are because of “fate” as some put it? Or simply because we want to do easy work?
What do I mean ….. A wise man shares with me that “Easy work, hard life. Hard work, easy life”. In simple terms: Do the hard work and your life gets easier. In simpler terms: do what you need to do what you want.
Now easy work does not mean it’s enjoyable! It could simply be work that does not require you to extend outta your comfort zone much. Doing what I do IS HARD WORK imo! Growing up I never, ever saw myself being in finance. I was the kid that just accepted “I’m bad at math” and shut down on it!
I kid you not. What got me into finance was a series of life lessons … what made me stay? If you guessed wanting an easy life? You got it!
It isn’t easy now though. It will be. That I have faith!

Our financial journey needs to be holistic which many lack! It has to encompass protection, accumulation, preservation and distribution because – responsibilities.
What I have learnt and embraced: our financial state and the planning is OUR responsibility. Nobody else’s. Take charge of it (which can be as simple as outsourcing it too!) before it takes charge of you. So hit follow and I hope my postings help you as it assists me to ground and do the hard work too. You will also get questions that assist you to ground and expand your perspective as the wise people I cross paths with expand mine! 😉
